About Us

ISISHO is a Francophone cultural organization based in Edmonton, Alberta, dedicated to the training, development and promotion of the arts of Black communities in all their forms: music, theatre, dance, literature, audiovisual and festival organization.

Our mission is to promote Francophone cultural identity in Alberta by offering platforms for creation, expression, dissemination, artistic training and creating sustainable professional opportunities.

Our story

In a city where cultures intersect but do not always understand one another, a need emerged: the need to create a space where diversity is not only accepted, but truly celebrated.

This is how ISISHO was born, driven by a simple yet powerful belief: every person has a voice, a story, and a talent that deserves to be heard.

At the beginning, ISISHO was just an idea—shared by a few committed individuals who observed that young people, artists, and families within the Francophone and Afro-descendant community were searching for spaces of expression. Too often, talents remained invisible due to a lack of opportunities, support, or recognition.

So ISISHO became a creative refuge. A place where children learn to express their emotions through art, where youth discover music, dance, and digital creation, and where elders share their wisdom and cultural memory with pride.

Gradually, the organization grew—not only in activities, but in human impact. Workshops were created, stages were opened, and quiet voices became confident ones. Each project became a bridge between cultures, between generations, and between dreams and reality.

Today, ISISHO continues to write its story: one of a community coming together, building itself, and shining. A story shaped by cultural diversity, inclusion, creativity, artistic excellence, and community engagement.

And this story is only just beginning.
